Privacy

Your data is not the experiment.

We collect as little as possible, do not track you across the web, and do not sell anything about you. This page explains what happens when you use this site or write to us.

What this website collects

This is a static website. It does not set advertising or analytics cookies, embed third-party trackers, or build a profile of your visit. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (IP address, request path, user agent, timestamp) for security and reliability, retained for no more than 30 days.

The contact and newsletter forms do not submit data to this website. They open your own email application with a pre-filled message. Nothing is stored in your browser or sent to us until you choose to send that email.

Information you send us

If you email us, we receive your address, message, and anything you attach. We use it to answer you and to keep a record of the correspondence. We do not add you to a mailing list unless you ask. Our email is hosted by a commercial provider under a data-processing agreement.

If you apply for a job, we keep your application for 12 months after the hiring process closes, then delete it unless you ask us to keep it on file. Hiring committee members see applications on a need-to-know basis.

Newsletter

Field Notes is sent by email. We store the address you provide and basic delivery information (opens and bounces) so we can remove inactive addresses. We do not use tracking pixels to build profiles. You can unsubscribe from any issue, and we delete the address within 30 days.

Research participants

Field trials and education programs have separate consent processes approved by our research integrity review. Those processes explain what data is collected, who can see it, and how long it is kept. They take precedence over this page for participants in those programs.

Sharing

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us operate the lab (email, accounting, payroll) under contract, or when required by law. We publish no donor names without consent.

Your rights

You can ask what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or ask us to delete it. Email privacy@ruqilab.org. We will respond within 30 days. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

Children

This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information through it. Our classroom programs collect student information only through partner schools, with parental notice and a data-processing agreement.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and note the date. Material changes affecting newsletter subscribers will be announced by email.
